📝 How to write a good feature spec as a PM
Talk Live on Thu, May 20, 2:00pm PST
Hello Friends!
I’m Fionna, a product manager, YouTuber and someone who gets excited to write specs but terrified of spec reviews.
Every week I share a story on what inspires me to be creative and musings that week. I’m fascinated by design, technology, people, languages, and the idea that I can use them to reinvent myself.
You will find that I express myself through different languages, witty mEmeS and impeccable formatting. Want more content like this in your inbox?

🎙 Another week in May, another Product School talk by Fionna!
My talk on "How to write a good feature spec" will be live today at 2:00pm PST!
Prepping for this talk was an adventure… let me tell you 😅. I was dead tired yesterday after playing tennis. (Thanks for the drills! I was running from one side to another while they (yes 2 people) stayed put and Made. Me. Suffer. 🙄 jk that hustle was much needed 🤪)
While taking a meditation break, I found myself crashing on the sofa 30 minutes later. That was my sign to go to sleep and finish the presentation next morning. Little did I know, I would wake up at 7:30am only to find that electricity was out in my building. 😨
While everyone is working from home, home being our office, and with no power… I had to find a way to do my 9-5 and get this done, out in the wild. Aka, camp out at a coffee shop with a laptop and a cup of latte. You know, the thing that we (hipsters) used to do all the time to have a change of scenery from the office? #feelslikeagesago
The first 10 minutes felt weird and familiar at the same time. I miss working there, even without my big monitors and ergonomic mouse, I felt exceptionally productive and had an easier time focusing on the task at hand. At that moment, I could see myself becoming a digital nomad - a gal who can work anywhere with a laptop and a Pina Colada.
Also, not to forget, a coffee shop’s ambiant noise is (oddly) excellent for concentration and creativity, but distracting for recording. So I had to scout another location, somewhere quiet, for rehearsing. Thankfully, being in tech has its advantages - having friends who are also in tech (a pro and a con, some may argue 🤷♀️). After some screens and temperature checks, I walked into a very green office building and took over a conference room… and made a makeshift standing desk so the camera is at my eye level when standing up. #callmeanengineer👩🔧
Indeed. The things I do to prep for a Product School talk. 🙆♀️
Well. I hope you enjoyed this little anecdote (before tuning in to my talk… right? 😉). I’m elated to speak again, this is my second last talk of the month, and I look forward to seeing you there! 🤩

Hey Fionna, I loved reading this. It was refreshing to get such an honest yet fun perspective. Subbing right away.
I would love it if you did a blog on making slides look and feel better. The ones on product specs are impeccable. Do you design the 3-D characters yourself or get them somewhere?
